On Monday, June 12, police acted on information submitted to tip411, the department’s anonymous texting service.

The tipster said a man had placed a firearm in the rear of an apartment building.

Patrol officers responded to the area of the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue where Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. located a handgun in a crawl space that was open to the public.

An investigation by Officer Kelly and Sergeant Garry Stowe with assistance from Detective Christopher Dodson identified Quanife Wynn as the man that discarded the gun. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Wynn, 23, of Atlantic City.

On Wednesday, June 14, Detectives Dodson, Alberto Valles, and James Barrett attempted to arrest Wynn after the detectives saw him at Tennessee and Atlantic Avenues.

Wynn ran from the detectives as they approached. He was apprehended and taken into custody and found in possession of marijuana that was packaged for sale, police said.

Wynn was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and several weapons and drug charges.

Wynn was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
